Digital painting - superhero
Ello there~~ : > so for this entry i'm going to show you a bit well i guess you can call this a tutorial how to color your character / superhero or whatever you would call it~~ so let's get started shall we?
Step 1
Open your folder that you want to color in Photoshop
Step 2
go ahead and click the magnetic lasso tool and select the area that you are going to color

Magnetic lasso tool : a tool that is similar to the normal lasso tool only that it follows ur arrow wherever your mouse go
Step3
After you have done selecting using the magnetic lasso tool, you can go ahead and click the paint bucket tool and choose a suitable color for her skin in this case i choose #e1b8b2. As for now, i will only use base color only because later i'm going to use the burn and dodge tool technique to make the shadow and high lighting part.
Step 4
Repeat step 2 and 3 for the rest of the parts like her hands, her hair and the costume. Since she had the ability to manipulate fire, i'm going to save that and color the fire later on because i'm thinking of creating some texture for that and plus the lighting and all.
Step 5
now that we have done coloring the base color it's time to use the burn and dodge tool technique which is quite easy. All you have to remember is that the burn tool is for you to make shadow, while the dodge tool is for highlights.

BURN & DODGE tool technique : a very useful technique to create shadow and highlights specially for photo manipulation to make the face more flawless and well define (as if wearing 'makeup'). Well you know what, here some good news you can also use the same technique to color your characters like this : >
<<<<
a BEFORE picture without the burn and dodge tool technique. ps: the dodge tool is under the same 'roof' as the burn tool. Few things to take note about this tool is that do not use it too much because it will look ridiculously weird like a clown LOL =w=lll
AFTER i applied the technique tada!~~ pretty neat right??
Step 6
Redefining spaces or areas that are too blending like for example if you notice that the girls face, the line-art is fading or in other words it's not clear. So, in that case just grab the pencil tool or brush tool either both is fine and then what i'm going to do is that i'm going to trace back the line-art to make it stands out more.
In case if you can't find the pencil tool it's under the brush tool you just have to long press until it reveals it.
Step 7
Continue re-touchup + editing any areas that you think it may need to be edited and repeat step 5 and 6 for the rest of the part
Here i have touch up a bit her face especially around the corner of her eyes and obviously her lips and what i'm doing right now is that i'm applying the burn and tool technique again on her hair to give that sense of depth
And here how it looks like but still it's not yet finish thou i just need a few more touch-ups and i'm done coloring her hair.
Well, i guess you can say i have somewhat almost finish 'burnNdodge' her hair. Hmmm but i kinda feel like there still something missing...most probably because her hair looks 'pale'.
If you noticed that the circled area i did something to that area. What i did was I simply use (this time) the brush tool and what i did with the brush tool is somewhat simillar to the burn N dodge technique except that i use the brush tool instead. I just 'darken' the areas where there i think logically should be shadows in those particular areas.
This is how exactly i color her hair. Just simple draw some line with your brush tool (make sure that the opacity is not exactly 100% instead put it around 60~78%) and just follow what i did in the picture.
After you have draw the lines, then you use smudge tool to make it blend or rather your just smoothing out those lines.
Here i already color a bit of her hood fur~~~. But then i kinda feel like i want to focus on coloring her coat first so i'm going to stop coloring the fur for a while and i will come back to continue coloring i later on..
As you can see in the picture i've already start to color her coat (the hood) a little bit and some part of the area(you probably can't see it but obviously i can)
Here's how it looks like overall. If your asking why the background suddenly change to blue it's because i already plan in the first place to make the background somewhat blue. (so that it could balance with her 'fire thing')
Continuing on the process of coloring her coat.
Done with coloring her inner part of the costume. But still i cannot
just stop here i mean the journey must go on i still have a long way to go
Continuing where i left off. Currently coloring her hoodie 'fur thing' lol i seriously don't know what to call this thing.
Almost forgot to color this thing on her back = w =lll
Coloring her gloves is the hardest part well obviously hands are my ultimate enemy(especially near her knuckles) either in drawings nor in coloring = . =
Sometimes it's good to experiment with different size of brush so i suggest you do the same. It's a lot more fun that way
Overall look after all that burning and dodging thing which a whole lot of proces finally finished and done with that.
If you noticed i burnNdodge those areas because somehow i don't like the idea of leaving them plain.
Step 8
OK! well we're almost done. Just a few more steps a little bit of touch up here and there. Owh before i forgot lol i need to color her 'fire'. since like i said earlier she had the ability to manipulate fire so first of all i'm going to go online for a while, to find a suitable reference picture as a guide to start coloring her 'fire thing'
Here are some reference picture that i took from Google i only choose three because i kinda of like how they look.
Judging by the 'fire 'pictures that I've taken from Google i can only say one thing which is most probably for coloring her 'fire' i would have to use analogous color of red
IT'S EXPERIMENTING TIME!!!~~~ wee ~~~> w <
lol...well, basicly what i'm doing here is that i'm experimenting while trying to figure out how to construct the fire in her hand.
In the process of constructing her fire
= w =
What happen in this screenshot was i just noticed that i overdid her fire thing. Her fire look somewhat too long and weird. So what i did was i 'cut' it using the marque tool and after that i use smudge tool and adjust it so it would look brand new LOL.
Step 9
And now we are down to the last part of the tutorial which is the lighting part.
Logically because we're coloring a girl with a fire in her hand, it would have been like the light around the fire would supposedly be even more lighter than the light surrounding the girl or pretty much in other words the fire would then supposedly be somewhat 'glowing'.

Here i'm using some random brush that i found in my Photoshop cs3 lol.(i didn't even knew i had this brush in the first place). But still i like the outcome of it.
Why do i fell like i want to laugh. Owh well at least the fire thing looks fine i guess. Um, except that her hand now looks like a matching stick or rather a burning candle LOL XD. Owh well, now what(thinking)
I decided to erase some of her fire because i couldn't even see her hand
= . = and at the same time i figure wanted to test out something like how it would look like if i erase some of it off.
There! that should do it. what i did was after i erase some of the the fire i add some burnNdodge thing and i also add some of that texture using that random brush that i found earlier. So far so good.
Final touch-up / Editing / BurnNdodge and whatever you want to add.
And were pretty much DONE!!
YAY!! FINALLY!!!! hahahahXD
Here are the color codes that i used for in this tutorial (I'm kind of tired after all those burning and dodging thing and not to mention smudging them so sorry that it kinda looks messy and not neat i do admit but please excuse me)
Final outlook and some signature (that's mine!! lol XD) obviously this is my character, so NO STEALING. I'm just doing this for one of my assignment. But of course at the same time i figure i could use this opportunity to share what i know about coloring in Photoshop, not that i'm pro. I'm still noob to be honest this is just basic things that i know the only way i know to color in photoshop sadly to say. Haha but yeah still i had a lot of fun doing it anyways. In case if you want to know more about her, originaly i named her Suzuki but since i never really had a superhero type character and what a coincidence! an assingment that requires you to create a superhero character~~~~ well so then i thought why not i just 'upgrade' her to a superhero character. I mean well, before she was just an ordinary character but still the same which is having the ability to manipulate fire that is. AND FROM NOW ON YOUR EVA~~!! hohoho~~ (why do i feel old suddenly

At first i thought of just leaving it like this. I'm talking about her black arwarmer and her tutleneck cloth that covers most of her neck. Hmm, well on a second i might want to color that too maybe lol not sure.
Overall look after all that burning and dodging thing which a whole lot of proces finally finished and done with that.
